PLYMOUTH (AP) – Two people were killed Saturday in a single-car accident that police are blaming on alcohol and excessive speed.

The victims were identified as Roth Hicks, 17, of Detroit, and Zachri Weaver, 20, who was from Florida and was staying with friends in the Detroit area, police said.

The 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora the two were in left the Rutland Road at about 3 a.m. and crashed into a telephone pole and trees, said Penobscot County Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Tibbetts. The victims were not wearing seat belts and were thrown from the car.

Tibbetts said investigators don’t know who was driving, and that beer bottles and narcotics were found in the car. He said police are awaiting the results of toxicology tests.
