HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (AP) – A North Andover, Mass., man was injured Sunday when the small plane he was piloting crashed after taking off from Hackettstown Airport in Warren County.

Jim W. Sheppard, 43, said he felt the plane’s engine stop just before the 6:53 a.m. crash, police in Mansfield Township said.

The plane struck the roof of a house and then hit a tree. The residents of the house were not home at the time, police said.

Sheppard was taken to Hackettstown Community Hospital, then transferred to Morristown Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released, a spokeswoman said.

Sheppard, who was the only person in the plane, had flown in to Hackettstown Airport on Saturday night and was staying in the area, police said.
