RUMFORD – PACE Local 1-900, the labor union that represents the hourly workers in the MeadWestvaco Paper Mill, announces the scholarship program is awarding a total of $7,700 for six scholarships and 37 educational grants to help local students for the 2004-2005 school year.

The first place and repeat winner of this year’s scholarship award of $1,000 is Alison Kerr, a 2003 graduate of Dirigo High School. Kerr is attending Bentley College. She is the daughter of Mark Kerr, who works in North End Finishing.

Second, winning a scholarship award of $800 is Tyson Flagg, a 2002 graduate of Livermore Falls High School who is attending the University of Southern Maine. He is the son of John Flagg, who works is North Mill Shipping.

Jessica Blaisdell won the third-place award of $700. She is a 2004 graduate of Dirigo High School and plans to attend Kennebec Valley Community College. Her father is Jon Blaisdell from R15 Tour E&I, PACE.

Fourth, fifth and sixth, respectfully, each receiving a $500 award are:

Lacey Bartlett, class of 2004 from Dirigo High School. She will attend the University of Southern Maine in the fall. She is the stepdaughter of Clinton Hall, who works in maintenance.

Samantha Johnson, Mountain Valley High School class of 2004, will attend the University of Southern Maine this fall. She is the daughter of Donald Johnson, E&I, PACE.

Rachel Labrecque, Mountain Valley class of 2002, is attending the University of Maine at Farmington. She is the daughter of Richard Labrecque, who works in Central Maintenance.

The following students will receive a $100 educational grant from the Local 900 Scholarship program:

Mountain Valley High School

Erica Rickards, daughter of Barry Rickards from Mobile Garage. She is a 2004 graduate and has a choice of Emmanuel College, University of Vermont or Northeastern University.

Ashley Arsenault is a 2004 graduate and will attend USM in the fall. She is the daughter of David Arsenault, who works on 11 Paper Machine.

Erin Stearns, a 2004 graduate, will attend UMF. She is the daughter of Daniel Stear, Maintenance Department.

Seth Gallant, class of 2004, will attend Montana State University or Green Mountain College. He is the son of Timothy Gallant, who works for Local 900 E&I.

Cerese Richardson, class of 2004, is sponsored by Wayne Mercier. She has a choice of entering the Massachusetts College of Health Science, USM or Southern Maine Community College.

Cory Merrill graduated in 2004 and will enter Endicott College, studying global studies. He is the son of Kerry Merrill, Utilities Department.

Cory Goff, class of 2004, is the son of William Goff, Pulp Maintenance. He plans to attend SMCC this fall..

Adam Belanger is a 2003 graduate and is attending Rockport College. He is the son of Glenn Belanger, R15 Maintenance.

Andrew Lebrecque, 2003 graduate, is at the Golf Academy of the Carolinas. He is the son of Richard Labrecque, Shift Maintenance.

Gregory Gallant, 2003, is attending Central Maine Community College. His father is Daniel Gallant, 12 Paper Machine.

Travis Parent, 2002, son of Edgar Parent of the Utilities ETP Department, is attending the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

Trevor Parent, 2002, is attending the University of Maine at Presque Isle. He is the son of Edgar Parent, Utilities ETP Dept.

Cory Stearns, 2002, attends the University of Maine. He is the son of Dan Stearns, Maintenance.

Kristen Allen, 2002, is attending UMF. Her father is James Allen, Maintenance.

Jill Waterhouse, 2002, is a student at UMaine in Orono. Her father is Joseph Waterhouse from Utilities.

Katie Chambers, 2002 is a student at USM. She is the daughter of Timothy Chambers, Maintenance.

Craig Fergola, also 2002, is attending UMaine in Orono. His father is David Fergola from Maintenance.

Jushua Waterhouse is a 2001 graduate and attends the University of New Hampshire. He is the son of Joseph Waterhouse of the Utilities Department.

Kassie Merrill, 2001, daughter of Kerry Merrill of the Utilities Dept., is attending the University of Maine.

Kimberly Johnson, class of 2000, is attending Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. She is the daughter of Donald Johnson, Local 900 E&I.

Dirigo High School

Richard Donahue is a graduate of the class of 2004 and plans to attend UMO. He is the son of Richard Donahue from the No. End Finishing Department.

Amanda Kimball, class of 2004, will also attend UMO. Amanda’s father is Gregory Kimball from ETP.

Shannon Irish, 2004, will attend St. Joseph’s College of Maine. She is the daughter of James Irish who works in No. End Finishing.

Monique Crawford is a 2003 graduate and is attending Susquehanna University. Her father is Robert Crawford from the Pulp Mill.

Jon Martin graduated in 2002 and is attending UMO where he is studying business. He is the son of Mike Parent of No. End Finishing.

Nicole Donahue, 2001, is studying at UMO. She is the daughter of Richard Donahue of the No. End Finishing Dept.

Mt. Ararat High School class of 2004: Katie Richard will attend Elmira College. Her father is Roger Richard who works in No. End Finishing.

Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School Class of 2004: Megan Roy will continue her schooling at SMCC. Megan is the daughter of Chris Roy, No. End Beater Room.

Mt. Blue High School class or 2004: Shanna Moody, daughter of Russell Moody of Quality Assurance, will attend Husson College.

Jay High School class of 2003: Britanny DeMillo is studying at USM. She is the daughter of Antonio DeMillo who works in the Pulp Mill.

Livermore Falls High School class of 2002: Andrew Dion is attending the Maine Maritime Academy. Andrew is the son of David Dion from Maintenance.
