LEWISTON – Auburn resident Mary Ann Norcross has been elected as a board member of the YWCA of Central Maine.

In making the announcement, Board President Lee Young commended Norcross for her many years of involvement in the YWCA and her record of achievement as a community volunteer. “We are so delighted that Mary Ann has accepted a new term on the YW board. She not only is a recognized leader in every aspect of her professional and community work, but she also has the unique distinction of having previously served the YW as board president,” commented Young. “The strength of the YWCA lies in its tradition of service to women and girls and in its ability to attract dedicated and talented volunteer leaders such as Mary Ann.”

Norcross has been a realtor at ERA Worden Realty for 20 years and has been honored, both in 1990 and 1999, as the Androscoggin Valley Realtor of the Year. She is a past-president of the CMMC Woman’s Hospital Association, the Androscoggin Valley Board of Realtors and the Androscoggin Head Start Board. In addition, Norcross has recently helped raise funds for the Auburn Public Library’s expansion and for the CMMC Cardiac Unit.

Norcross said, “I first became a member of the YWCA as a Y-teen 50 years ago. My experiences at the YWCA as a club member, volunteer, and board member have contributed to my growth and helped me develop into the woman I am today. I want to make sure that other girls and women have this opportunity. The YWCA is as important to this community and its families today as it was when I joined. I look forward to adding my energy and talents to its continuing proud tradition of service.”
