PORTLAND – Adrienne N. Soule, 94, passed away peacefully Friday, July 23.

She was born in Plessesville, Canada, daughter of Ulric and Obline Provencher. Her parents moved her and 13 brothers and sisters to Maine when Adrienne was 19 years old. She has lived in the Greater Portland area since 1948.

One of Adrienne’s largest accomplishments in life was becoming an American citizen in October of 1942. Only able to speak French, she spent many late nights in school learning the English language and was determined to speak it perfectly.

She worked most of her life but loved gardening when she could. She was a member of the Cousins Island Woman’s Auxiliary, as well as various organizations through the years.

She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Soule Jr. of Portland; a daughter, Joyce Bailey of Port Charlotte, Fla.; a daughter, Rita Chapin of Clearwater, Fla.; a daughter, Priscilla Yerxa and her husband Richard of Portland; a daughter, Ellen Gallant-Steeves and her husband Timothy of Clearwater, Fla; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and several neices and nephews.

She was predeceased by all of her brothers and sisters.
