PARIS – Some Paris residents lost power Tuesday when a 17-year-old driver went off the road and struck a utility pole with her car, police said.
Alyson Demers, 17, of Otisfield was driving her father’s 1997 Dodge Caravan south on High Street near The Corner Store about 4:50 p.m. when she drove off the road and struck the pole, Paris Police Sgt. Michael Daily said Wednesday.
“She reached down to pick up a soda and left the road,” Daily said.
The Central Maine Power Co. pole that Demers struck was broken in half, he said. There was extensive damage to the car, but Demers reported no injuries and refused medical treatment, he said.
“Many of the (Central Maine Power) customers had power within an hour, an hour and a half,” Daily said. Some had to wait nearly five hours while the pole was replaced.
Demers was wearing a seat belt and the air bags in her car deployed, Daily said.
