LEWISTON – A surprise celebration honoring 50 years of marriage between Reggie and Yvette Parent was held at the Ramada Inn on June 27.

Hosted by Donald and Doris Parent, Larry and Jenifer Parent and grandchildren, Emily, Gerard, Mary Beth and Joel, the surprise was successful. Over 100 family and friends gathered to witness the renewal of their vows and congratulate them on the blessings God has bestowed on them. There were guests from near and far, including Canada and New Zealand, who cleared their schedules to take part in this special day.

A slide show of the wonderful life they have spent together was one of the highlights of the afternoon. Michael Dodge served as master of ceremonies. Family and friends came forward to tell stories of how the couple has impacted their lives. Their goddaughter, Louise Devlin, provided a beautifully decorated three-tier anniversary cake. Most of the original wedding party was present at the ceremony.

Mr. Parent and the former Yvette Laplante were married Sept. 6, 1954, at Holy Cross Church, Lewiston. He was in the Army before he married Mrs. Parent. In retirement they enjoy spending their winters in Florida, where they can enjoy being outside and riding their bikes.

The couple provided a loving and welcoming home for their sons. They passed on to them a strong faith and the importance of family. They continue to make spending time with their children and grandchildren a priority in their lives. As witnessed at the anniversary party, they have touched many people in significant ways.
