AUBURN – Charles and Mary Kyes of Farmingdale celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 27 at the Gardiner Lodge of Elks in Gardiner.

Mr. Kyes, originally from Jay and the former Mary Goding, from Auburn, were married on June 30, 1944 at the Universalist Church in Auburn, by the Rev. Albert C. Niles.

They have two children, Dr. Randy Kyes and wife, Kelly of Seattle, Wash., and Kendra Kyes of Farmingdale. They also have two grandchildren, Colby and Rachel of Seattle.

Mrs. Kyes retired in June of 1986 after teaching for 38 years. She was employed as a business education teacher in West Paris, Mexico, Kennebec School of Commerce in Gardiner and Hall-Dale and Gardiner Area High Schools.

Mr. Kyes retired in June of 1980 after 30 years of employment as a disability claims examiner at the Veterans Administration Center in Togus. He also is retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service.

Members of the original wedding party in attendance were Madeline Goding Beaucage of Portsmouth, R.I., bridesmaid, Meredith Bragdon Glover of Solebury, Pa., flower girl, and Elmer “Bud” Goding of Auburn, usher.

Their daughter, Kendra, made the anniversary cake and floral decorations. Uniquely music harpist, Mellori Worthen of Norridgewock, provided special music, including “Because.”

Guests attended from Alfred, Auburn, Augusta, Bath, Bridgton, Brunswick, Danville, Farmingdale, Gardiner, Hallowell, Jay, Livermore, Manchester, Pittston, Portland, Randolph, South Freeport, West Gardiner, Wilton, Windham, Winthrop, Woolwich, Weymouth, Mass., Solebury, Pa., and Portsmouth, R.I.
