LEWISTON – A gathering was held recently for Marcel and Irene Mathieu of Lewiston, on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. Party hosts were children of the couple and the event was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Lewiston.

Tables were decorated with bouquets of purple lilacs, white roses and white peonies. The food and staff were provided by MAX Ultimate Catering of Boston, owned and operated by their son, Dan Mathieu, and managed by daughter, Nancy Mathieu. Toastmaster was Ron Mathieu, son of the couple.

Mr. Mathieu and the former Irene Cloutier were married on April 24, 1954, at Saints Peter and Paul Chapel in Lewiston.

The couple has six children, Denise D’Amboise, Ron Mathieu, Dan Mathieu, Janice Mathieu, Nancy Mathieu and Donna Hall. They also have four grandchildren, Matthew and Sean D’Amboise and Eric and Bryan Hall.

Mrs. Mathieu is a homemaker and also worked part time as a teller at various financial institutions in the local area, including Ste. Croix Credit Union, Fleet Bank and People’s Bank. She enjoys sewing, knitting and crafts.

Mr. Mathieu is retired from the Lewiston Fire Department and was also self-employed as an electrician. He enjoys playing softball competitively and is a member of a senior team in Arizona. Over the last 15 years he has played on teams that have won the Seniors World Championships as well as the Senior Olympics.

They spend their winters in Mesa, Ariz., where they both enjoy tennis, bowling and golf.

Original wedding attendants present were her sister, Florence Grenier, maid of honor, and his friend, Ernest Morissette, best man. Guests came from California and Massachusetts.
