LEWISTON – Michael J. McCollister, 17, of Sumner and formerly of Mechanic Falls, went to Heaven as the result of a fatal automobile accident on Aug. 17.

He was born in Lewiston on Aug. 23, 1986, the son of John E. McCollister and Sandra Marie Herrick.

“Mike” loved life and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father, attending Faith Bible Chapel Group and Church, spending quality time with his family and friends and traveling with his grandparents.

“Mike” loved creating a stir, whether it was with his teachers, friends, co-workers or family. He brought laughter and sunshine to all who knew him.

A senior at Buckfield High School, he was a member of the math team, winning several awards and ran sidelines for the boys varsity soccer games. He was enrolled in the Navy’s delayed entry program for nuclear engineering, to commence after graduation from high school in June of 2005.

He had been employed at C.F. Wells in Buckfield and presently was employed at Roy’s All Steak in Auburn.

Michael is survived by his father, John, of Sumner; his mother, Sandra Herrick, his twin sister, Michelle, a brother, Mark McCollister, a brother, Matthew Herrick and his wife, Jessica, a nephew, Trevor Herrick and a niece, Octavia Herrick, all of Mechanic Falls; paternal grandparents, David and Sue Bryant, of Sumner; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Michael was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Albert and Marie Herrick, of West Paris and his paternal grandfather, Ray McCollister.
