BOSTON (AP) – A Mattapan man pleaded innocent Thursday to charges in connection with the playground shooting of an 11-year-old boy who was trying out for youth football.

Boston Municipal Court Judge Michael Coyne set bail of $750,000 for Kirk Gordon, 23, on the charges that included assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and other weapons charges.

The judge also revoked Gordon’s bail in a two-year-old case in which Gordon was accused of stabbing five people on a subway during an argument.

Gordon is accused of firing into a crowd at Carter Playground in Boston’s South End on the evening of Aug. 1 when he saw someone he had argued with earlier. A stray bullet struck Jenry Gonzalez in the chest. The boy is recovering.

Gordon was arrested Wednesday. Prosecutors said a witness saw Gordon running from the park with a gun in hand.
