AUBURN – Electrical Systems of Maine (E.S.M.) captured the L-A Softball League Twin City championship Thursday with a 26-9 victory over Gipper’s, the Lewiston champ. The teams had split their first 2 games of their best-of-3 championship series.
The Auburn kings got 4 for 4 performances from Chance Dodge and Mike Gazza. Jeremy Shorey and Mike Campbell added 3 hits each. Gazza, Shorey and Mike Reid all walloped a homer. Chip Doughty, Bob Haskell and Mike Pomerleau all clouted a round-tripper for Gipper’s. Pomerleau finished with 3 hits.
E.S.M. compiled a seasonal record of 15-2 and a playoff mark of 6-1.
Auburn Co-Rec League
AUBURN – Playoffs in the Auburn Rec Co-Rec Softball League will be held the weekend of Sept. 18-19.
Opening schedule on Saturday, Sept. 18 is as follows:
1:00: J.C. Penney vs Tacoma’s, Tribou; Mark’s Sluggers vs Androscoggin Home Health, Pettengill; Dirigo Dominators vs Goin’ Deep, Lakeview-1.
3:00: Dirty Dozen vs winner of Tribou game at Tribou; winner Sluggers-Home Health vs winner Dominators-Goin’ Deep, Pettengill; loser Sluggers-Home Health vs loser Dominators-Goin’ Deep, Lakeveiw-1.
5:00, losers’ bracket games, Pettengill, Lakeview-1.
The tourney continues Sunday at 12 noon with all games at Pettengill. Championship tilt is set for 5 p.m.
Auburn Players League
AUBURN – Playoff teams have been reduced to 4. Thursday, Able Power eliminated Bulldogs; Melanson/WAC ousted K&K Excavation, then eliminated Lincoln Street Radiator, 13-8, under the lights. Playoffs resume Monday at Pettengill. The only 2 unbeaten teams left, Ball Busters and CarQuest Auto, will clash at 6:00. Able Power will meet Melanson/WAC at 7:30. Monday’s losers will battle in the semifinal game Tuesday at 6:00, with a championship round game set for Wednesday at 6:00.
The “if” game is slated for Thursday at 6:00.
