LIVERMORE FALLS – Mary E. Bessey, 83, of Livermore Falls, passed away Saturday, Aug. 28, at her home, surrounded by her family and friends.

Born in South Paris, Dec. 9, 1920, a daughter of Guy and Gladys (McKay) Culbert, she graduated from South Paris High School in 1939.

In 1942, she married Charles E. Bessey. He passed away in 1982. During World War II, she was employed at Bath Iron Works. She was also employed at Livermore Falls Shoe for many years. During this time she was on the supervisory committee for the Livermore Shoe Credit Union.

She enjoyed wintering in Florida, cheering on the Red Sox, playing Skip-Bo and flower gardening. She also enjoyed going to SeniorsPlus to play Bingo, going shopping, spending time with her family and friends and cooking and making crafts.

She is survived by her son, Dale Bessey and his companion, Candy Soucy, of Jay; her grandchildren, Rowdy Bessey, of Boston, Mass., and Jaime Bessey, of Manchester, N.H.; special nieces, Barbara Hammond, of North Turner and Doreen Merrill, of Waterford; special friend, Frankie Martin, of Bangor; and several nieces, nephew and friends.

She was predeceased by a sister, Ann Proctor, and two brothers, Frank and William Culbert.
