DURHAM, N.H. (AP) – Seven graduate students from around the world have joined a cutting-edge research team at the University of New Hampshire.

The students will be working on mapping the ocean floor in hopes of discovering new natural resources and a deeper understanding of ocean life. After a year at UNH, they will bring back their knowledge to areas of the world where little ocean mapping has been done.

The students are from Kenya, India, Peru, Nigeria, Japan, Argentina and Fiji.

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – Gov. Craig Benson has ordered the state flag to half-staff in honor of former New Hampshire National Guard commander Lloyd Price.

Price, a retired Major General, died Monday at his home in Concord of kidney cancer.

Price joined the National Guard in 1949, and became state adjutant general in 1984. He led the guard for a decade.

Benson said New Hampshire has lost a true patriot.

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – A state advisory panel has approved spending $12 million in federal money to help firefighters talk with each other and police.

The recommendation from the Homeland Security Grant Review Board now goes to the safety department and governor. If approved, the money would complete efforts to link all fire and emergency responders under the same communications system.

State and local police already have received about 2,600 mobile and portable radios, but another 6,000 are needed.
