CHARLESTON, S.C. – Heather Hathorn scored a hat trick to lead the University of Maine to a 7-0 shutout win over Charleston Southern in women’s soccer action Saturday.

Hathorn’s first goal of the game, just 8:54 into the contest, tied the school record with 20 career goals. Hathorn broke the record just six minutes later and padded the tally before intermission.

Jasmine Phillips had one save in goal for Maine, while Miki Wilson made six stops for Charleston.

Wheaton 7, Husson 0

NORTON, Mass. – Fifth-ranked Wheaton College exploded for five goals in the first half en route to a 7-0 triumph over Husson College.

Senior All-America Erin Brennan, classmate Carolyn Wills and freshman Lauren Konopka tallied two goals apiece for the Lions (2-0).

NEWPORT, R.I. – Sean Peters rushed for 131 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns to lead Salve Regina to a 35-28 win over Husson College in football action Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles struck early into the contest, when quarterback David Chase found James Dobson deep for a 48-yard touchdown pass on just the second play of the game. The Seahawks responded with a pair of touchdowns to make it 14-7 at the end of one.

Mike Prentiss, who had 129 yards on 16 carries, found the end zone twice in the second quarter to even up the contest at the half.

Salve Regina owned the second half with a 98-yard march and controlled the clock on their next possession to take a 35-21 advantage. Matt Hilton dazzled with a 52-yard run to put Husson within striking distance with less than four minutes to go in regulation.

CMCC Sweeps

AUBURN – Dustin Longchamps pitched six scoreless innings, giving up three hits and striking out seven, as Central Maine Community College defeated Vermont Tech 7-0 in the first game of a doubleheader sweep of Vermont Tech.

Ryan Palmer had two doubles an RBI and a run scored. Nick Taylor also added a double an RBI and a run scored.

In the nightcap, Greg Hird who went the distance in a 3-1 victory.

Rusty Williams had two RBI.
