LEWISTON – Ernest G. White, 81, of Spring Street in Lewiston, went to the Lord peacefully and with dignity surrounded by his loving family at Central Maine Medical Center Sept. 2.

He was born in Rumford July 16, 1923, the son to Charles and Laura Moody White. He was educated in Lisbon Falls schools and was a graduate of Lisbon High School with the class of 1941.

On July 17, 1951, he married the former Ruth Dutille (Gagnon). He was employed for many years at Pejepscot Paper Mill in Pejepscot until his retirement, as beater engineer. He also worked for City Cab, and Two in One Taxi for many years.

He was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Army as Seargent. During his service to his county, he received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Ribbon, the Victory Medal and the EAMET ribbon. He was affiliated with the First Assembly Of God Church of Lewiston.

He will be remembered for his strong work ethics and for always putting his family first before all. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and seldom missed the opportunity to watch them play.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of Lewiston; son, Larry White and his wife, Janice, of Jay, son, Dale White and his wife, Michelle, of Lewiston, son, George Gagnon, of Lewiston; daughter, Nancy Jenny and her husband, Robert, of Lakeworth, Fla.; he enjoyed spending time with his six grandchildren, Sherri, Hollie, Raymond, Becky, Larry Jr., Nathan; nine great-grandchildren, who they called Bampa and Bamp-Bamp by his youngest grandson, Nathan; three sisters, Grace White, of Michigan, Barbara Goodall, of Florida, and Margaret Smith, of Topsham; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Oscar, Leslie and John White, and one sister, Bessie Smith.
