LEWISTON -The Football League for Youth (FLY) has inaugurated a new season.
The Lisbon Street Getty Mart Senior Redskins opened with a thrilling 18-13 victory over the 2-time defending champ Hannaford Lions. Logan Chouinard’s 17-yard TD scamper with 1:10 left was the game-winner. He then picked off a Lion pass with less than a minute left to seal the win. Tony Saucier scored twice for the winners. Trevor Laliberte and Jake Farrago tallied touchdowns for the Lions. Ray Goulet, Avery Jackson, Brian Campbell, Brandon Vye and Aaron Crenshaw dominated the offensive line for the Redskins. Pat Collins, Chouinard and Saucier sparkled defensively. On the Lions side, Casey Parker, Kerry Shepard and Ben Wigant all had a fine game.
In the other Senior battle, the Bank North Giants beat the Steelers 25-6 as Tyler Lussier tossed a pair of TD passes to Chuck Faletra and ran for a score. Jeff Keene picked off a Steeler pass and ran it back for another TD. Other standouts were Tyler Ray, Conroy Leblond and Kyle MacVane. Aaron Olsen scored the Steeler TD on a 35-yard gallop. Jon Letourneau also had a fine game offensively, while Jamie Poulin and Logan Rossignol (8 solo tackles) led the defense.
Junior Division
In the Junior Division, the Lions blanked the Redskins 27-0 as Spencer Martin, Matt Melanson, Matt Therrien and Cody Chapman all hit the end zone. Strong performances were turned in by the linemen. Steven Hinkley and Brent Freve played well on offense for the Redkins. Defensive standouts were Mitch Bennett, Tyler Sturtevant and Brady Lare.
John McDonough, Coby Poussard and Tony Godbout (65-yards) scored on touchdown runs as the Steelers knocked off the Giants 25-12. Cody Rodrigue hauled in a 25-yard scoring pass from Matt Bowen. David Demers and Nate Berube (65-yard run) scored for the Giants. Top defenders were Corbin Hyde, Alex Smith and Kathy Peterson.
