BETHEL – The Rape Education And Crisis Hotline will begin a 12-week advocacy training course on Sept. 21.

The 12-week course is designed to provide advocates and volunteers with the resources they need to assist sexual assault victims and survivors, and their loved ones, with support and information. The free course is recommended to anyone interested in reducing the effects of sexual violence in the community.

Although REACH is always in need of volunteers and advocates, it is not required that an individual become an advocate after taking the training.

The REACH training facilitator and hot line manager will talk with the participant to determine if advocacy is right for each individual.

The first training class will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, at the Telstar High School in Bethel.

A South Paris class will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the REACH office on East Main Street.

People may obtain an application by calling 743-9777. An initial meeting will need to be scheduled before the first class.
