BUCKFIELD – If there is one word that might describe Richmond’s wins over Buckfield in high school soccer on Saturday, it would be domination.

Haley Brown scored two goals and Katie Cray added a third as the Richmond girls controlled play from the beginning in a lopsided 3-1 win, while Zack Brown scored two goals and four other Bobcats also found the net in a 6-1 rout of the Bucks.

“They have a great program,” said Buckfield girls’ coach Mike Jack. “They had a lot of pressure on us. They brought everybody and forced the issue and scored early.”

Buckfield tried to survive the first Richmond advances, and nearly did, but Brown found the net early on a nifty shot in front of Buckfield keeper Shayna Shackford to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.

“It’s important to set a tempo,” said Richmond girls’ coach Troy Kendrick. “We start two freshmen and four sophomores, so to get up early gets them in the right state of mind.”

Brown added another before the half, and Cray notched hers in the second half before Alyssa Henderson put the Bucks on the board with a clanger off the cross bar after a nice feed from Kasey Farrington.

The Buckfield boys didn’t fare much better.

After tying the game up on an acrobatic header goal by Rex Wilkinson in the 20th minute, the Bucks shot blanks while Richmond ran off five consecutive goals, three of which came before the half.

“They are finally starting to put the pieces together,” said Richmond coach Rick Coughlin.

“We work all the time on passing and scoring, and it worked well today.”

Brown had one goal in each of the two halves, while Walter Miller, Brandon Lancaster, Isaiah Eagles and Nate Holden all scored for the Bobcats (2-1).

Playing in net for most of the game with a broken toe, Justin Dodge of Buckfield prevented an even more lopsided score with several big saves, finishing the game with 21 stops on 26 shots.
