ROCKPORT – The wedding of Abbey Marie Watkinson and Erik Lewis McCarthy was held at 5 p.m. on July 17 at the Samoset Resort. The outdoor ceremony was officiated by Russell Wolfertz, justice of the peace, who is a friend of the bride’s family.

Mrs. McCarthy is the daughter of Janet and Randal Watkinson of Owls Head. Mr. McCarthy is the son of Christine and Lewis McCarthy of Greene.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a halter style white gown with beaded bodice and train. She carried a cascade of stephanotis, lily of the valley and pink roses.

The bridegroom played the classical guitar song, “Romance” and the bride read the poem “A Birthday,” by Christina Rossetti.

Nichole Hansen was maid of honor and bridesmaids were Andrea Curtis, Midori Goto and sisters Anna and Ashley Watkinson.

Daniel Kary was best man and groomsmen were Edward Van Tassel, Eric Martin and brothers Jason and Steven McCarthy.

A reception followed at the Samoset Resort, after which the newlyweds honeymooned in Turks and Caicos.

Mr. and Mrs. McCarthy are graduate students at the University of Maine. She is studying food science and nutrition and he is studying biological engineering.
