LEWISTON – Elden T. LaBelle, 78, of Kingfield, passed away Sept. 8, at d’Youville Pavilion following a long illness.

Born in Freeman, June 9, 1926, a son of the late Alton A. and Muriel E. (French) LaBelle, he attended Kingfield schools.

He enlisted in the Navy, serving during World War II. He married Nettie Walker while home on leave in 1944. He returned home from the Navy and was self-employed for several years as woodsman, truck driver, television repairman, restaurant owner and doing flea markets with his companion of more than 20 years.

Survivors include his companion, Marilyn “Pat” LaBelle; his son, David E. LaBelle; sister, Mary Daggett, of Kingfield; brother, Eugene Daggett and his wife, Coral, of Strong; several nieces and nephews; and good friends, Crystal Lane, his gardening neighbor, Audrey Tague, and phone friend, Harry.

He was predeceased by his wife, Nettie (Walker) LaBelle in 1978, and brother, H. Everett LaBelle.
