CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Traci Rainone scored the eventual game-winner just 4:23 into the game as Maine battled to a 2-0 win over Harvard in field hockey action Saturday.

The Black Bears (6-2) handed the No. 16 Harvard its first loss of the season on a rain-soaked Jordan Field. Joanna Fernandes scored at the 64:15 mark for Maine with an insurance goal.

Colby 1, Bowdoin 0

WATERVILLE – Lauren Smith did the job offensively and defensively for the Colby College field hockey team.

Colby (2-1) got the only goal it would need off a penalty corner with 5:27 left in the first half.

Smith started the penalty corner and then shoved in a rebound off a shot by teammate Kyla Wagman that had been kick saved by Bowdoin goaltender Kate Leonard. Colby goaltender Molly Rice stopped six shots for her first shutout.

Wentworth 4, UNE 3

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Wentworth Leopards scored four first-half goals and held off a late University of New England rally to take a 4-3 Commonwealth Coast Conference victory.

Sophomore Caillin Wall got Wentworth on the board at the outset, scoring an unassisted goal in the second minute.

Amanda Smith drew the Nor’easters even six minutes later when she converted a crossing pass from senior Kerry Weber .Bowdoin 2, Colby 0

WATERVILLE – Katherine Whitley scored a pair of goals to lead the Bowdoin to a 2-0 victory over rival Colby.

Whitley, a first-year forward, scored the eventual game-winning goal midway through the first half off an assist from senior forward Rachael Gordon.

BIDDEFORD, Maine — Freshman Kevin Neilan scored off a rebound in the first half to give Wentworth the only goal it would need in a 3-0 shutout of the University of New England.

St. Joseph’s 3, Maine Maritime 0

STANDISH – Joe Valente scored a goal just 49 seconds into the game to propel St. Joseph’s to a 3-0 setback of Maine Maritime Academy. Harrison Deah added a pair of second half goals.

Bowdoin 2, Colby 1

WATERVILLE — Simon Parsons and Tom Bresnehan both scored second-half goals as Bowdoin took a 2-1 victory over Colby.

Bowdoin went ahead 1-0 15 minutes into the half on a goal by Parsons off an assist from Kevin Mullins.
