NORWAY – Joan Gesner Pope, 67, of Buckfield, died in Norway, Saturday, Sept. 18.

She was born in Buckfield May 22, 1937, the daughter of Thomas and Tena Bonney Gesner. She was educated in local schools and was a 1955 graduate of Edward Little High School.

She married Richard R. Pope on Aug. 17, 1957, in Oxford. She had worked at the Oxford Tel & Tel for 45 years.

She was very involved with the community of Buckfield. She served as chairman of the Buckfield Village Corp. for 25 years, was treasurer of the Streaked Mountain Snowmobile Club, was past treasurer of the Buckfield Athletic Association, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Buckfield. She was an avid reader.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Richard Pope of Buckfield; one son, Peter Pope of Auburn; one daughter, Pamela J. Wilson of Charleston, S.C.; one brother, Ivan Gesner of Buckfield; and three grandchildren, Justin Grecco, Michael Grecco and Darcy Pope.
