OXFORD – The annual Down East Sled Dog Club Trade Fair and Seminar will be held Columbus Day weekend, Oct. 8-10, at the Oxford County Fairgrounds on Pottle Road.
The event is a celebration of the world of sled dogs and activities connected with them. There will be entertaining and educational presentations by world champion musher Blayne “Buddy” Streeper of Fort Nelson, British Columbia. He has won more than 50 races and is still in his early 20s.
Veterinarian Jennifer Deye of Finland, Minn., will have a presentation for all dog lovers, especially those who fancy Siberian huskies. Many local mushers will be involved.
Early Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday morning will feature dry land race events. The event will feature vendors representing everything from dog sled builders, dog food and supplements, mushing and skijoring equipment suppliers, sled dog clubs, sled dog tour operators and race organizations. Attending vendors and speakers will represent Ontario, and British Columbia, Canada; New York, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Minnesota and Pennsylvania.
The Down East Sled Dog Club Trade Fair and Seminar is open to the public for an admission charge of $1 per person.
The hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Race events will take place Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday morning, weather conditions permitting.
