EAST WILTON – A celebration was held on July 18 in honor of the 50th wedding anniversary of Arthur and Joanne Child of East Wilton. The event was held at the Granary Restaurant in Farmington and was a gift from their five children, Arthur Jr. of Farmington, George of Gaithersburg, Md., Justine and Michael of East Wilton, and Lynn O’Connor of Farmington.

The couple was married on July 18, 1954, and they currently reside in East Wilton. She is a retired medical assistant and certified nurse’s aide. He is retired from Otis Specialty Paper Co. They enjoy their winters snowmobiling and their summers camping and going to bluegrass and country festivals.

When the guests of honor arrived, their daughters adorned them with a boutonniere and a corsage of white roses. One of the highlights of the afternoon was a musical slide show of the life of the couple, produced by Jason Poulin of North New Portland. Their granddaughter, Larissa O’Connor, later presented them with a special scrapbook capturing memories of the 50 years they have spent together.

A catered hot meal was enjoyed by all, after which a toast was given by Lee Pease, a brother of Mrs. Child. He had a few special words to say about his sister and brother-in-law. Following the toast, a three-tier gold and white cake was served, after the couple had shared the first piece with each other. Their oldest son, Arthur Child Jr., provided music for the party, including the couple’s song, “Look at Us,” by Vince Gill.

The golden anniversary celebration brought friends and relatives from as far away as New Hampshire, Maryland and Florida. About 106 people attended the event.
