AUBURN – Becky Lewis and Kayla McKay scored two goals each as St Dom’s continued to roll with a convincing 4-0 win against Waynflete.

The rematch was anticipated to be a battle because the Saints had beaten the Flyers 1-0 last week.

St. Dom’s (8-1) immediately went on the offensive and controlled the ball for approximately 55 of 60 minutes in the game.

The huge statistical advantage told the story, as the Saints led in shots 33-0 and penalty corners 17-2.

“Our intensity level made all the difference,” Lewis said. “There is great pride in this team and even though the score was only 1-0 at halftime, I had confidence in the team.”

Lewis had given the Saints the lead, by firing a shot past Waynflete goalie Jessica Zellinger (19 saves), two minutes and 34 seconds in to the game. Lewis, senior co-captain, was constantly carrying the down the right side. The centering passes produced numerous scoring opportunities.

St. Dom’s, playing without Michela Fyler who suffered a concussion on Saturday, didn’t skip a beat, with Kristin Ruby and McKay rotating in on the front line. McKay recorded her first-ever varsity goals in the second half. Dorso and Ruby assisted on the scores.

“The team has been playing like that all season,” Saints coach Brian Kay said. “With all the pressure that we had, I believed it was just a matter of time before some shots would start going in.”

Waynflete, which played a defensive game, couldn’t get the ball past Saints midfielders Beth Shutt, Alley O’Shea and Kate Landry.

Goalie Elizabeth Bennett registered her sixth shutout.

“Our midfielders were the difference on defense,” Kay said. “They wouldn’t let any balls go through. Landry is only a freshmen on the right side, but she works well with Shutt in the middle. O’Shea is a junior and controls the left side.”

Saint Doms essentially iced the game, when Lewis fired home a Vandermeulen pass, 4:55 into the second half.
