BIDDEFORD – Bates College scored five goals in the second half to break open a 1-0 match for a 6-0 non-conference win over the University of New England in mens’ soccer action Thursday.
Despite controlling play in the first half, the Bobcats (4-1) were able to score just one goal, which came from junior David Shear at the 24:16 mark.
Junior Terence O’Connell started the second half scoring barrage just 56 seconds into the frame. O’Connell’s goal was followed by tallies from senior Alex Wolff, first-year Brent Morin and a pair from Ian Livengood.
Senior James Kenly and first-year goalkeeper Aaron Schliecher combined to make two saves for the Bobcats, while junior Steven Bishop stopped 10 shots for the winless Nor’easters (0-7-1).
