LEWISTON – Dorothy L. Powers, 81, of College Street, (Montello Heights), formerly of Main Street, Monmouth and Crestview Drive, Portland, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday evening, Sept. 28, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston.

Born in South Freeport, a daughter of William and Kathleen Parker Bragdon, she attended schools in Freeport, graduating from Freeport High School, Class of 1940, where she met her husband, John G. Powers, Jr., while attending high school. They were married on Oct. 31, 1943.

Mrs. Powers worked in the business office at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard during World War II. She enjoyed reading her Bible and other Christian books, baking, knitting and shopping. She was a gentle soul whom everyone enjoyed being around.

She loved her children, cherished her grandchildren and adored her great-grandchildren. She was devoted wife and not only a mother, but a wonderful mentor and friend. She will be sadly missed by all.

She leaves a son, David, and his wife, Judy Powers, of Monmouth; a daughter, Maryjane, and her husband, Terry Buck, of Turner; a sister, Lois Leary, of Saco; four grandchildren, Timothy, and his wife, Georgia Hiltz, of Buxton, Melissa, and her husband, Scott Ferland, of Auburn, Kristen Leigh Powers, a student at LaSalle College, Boston, and Sarah Lynn Buck, of Stratham, N.H.; and five great-grandchildren, twins, Logan Richard Hiltz and Dillon Timothy Hiltz, and Brayden Geoffrey Hiltz, all of Buxton, and Maggie Jane Ferland, and Allison Sky Ferland, both of Auburn.

She is predeceased by her husband in 1994 and her sister, Mary Stock in 1966.
