LEWISTON – The third annual nature festival will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 9, at Thorncrag Bird Sanctuary.

Those wishing can start the day with a birding trip to Sabattus Pond with leader Tom Hayward. There will be migrating ducks and shorebirds as well as land birds. Meet at the Sabattus Street Hannaford parking lot at 8 a.m.

Back at Thorncrag at 10 a.m. the festival will start with the theme “Through the Eyes of a Child.” There will be many activities for children and families to discover the wonders of the sanctuary. Meet at the gate at the end of East Avenue where there is good parking.

Activities will include making a nature journal with Marge Schuler, tree name tags, tree exploration with Jeri Maurer, meadow creatures with Susan Hayward and pond exploration with Bonnie Soper.
