LISBON FALLS – A “Cooking for Crowds” workshop will be offered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, at the Androscoggin/Sagadahoc County Extension Office. 24 main St.

The workshop is free, and participants will receive a “Cooking for Crowds” food safety manual, certificate of attendance, instant read thermometer and posters. The Extension is offering the workshop to help nonprofit food providers such as churches, fraternal organizations and civic groups provide safe food.

Participants will learn up-to-date methods for safely handling and preparing food for large groups.

Topics will include how food becomes unsafe, preparation practices to keep food safe and purchasing and storage of food and supplies. Participants will learn recommended methods for taking food temperatures and how to calibrate a thermometer for accuracy.

Other topics to be discussed will include holding hot and cold foods, safe thawing and reheating practices, handling leftovers, personal hygiene practices and how-to’s of cleaning and sanitizing.

Participants should bring their own lunch. Persons interested in attending are asked to register before Nov. 9 by calling 1-800-287-1471.
