MEXICO – Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice is offering a six-week exercise program called Moving Freely. Although designed for senior citizens, men and women of all ages are welcome to attend the classes.
Research has shown that regular exercise for people of all ages enhances the quality of life and provides many other health benefits. Research has also shown that it is never too late to begin an exercise program.
Those wishing can join instructor Louise Stickney starting Monday, Oct. 11. Classes will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Mexico Recreation Center gym, Recreation Drive.
Moving Freely offers exercises that are safe, simple and effective. Participants learn why the exercises are necessary, what they do for the body and mind and how to incorporate them into their daily lives. The exercises are designed to achieve the full range of movement in all body parts to develop flexibility, agility, coordination, balance and strength.
In early lessons, exercises are done from a sitting position on padded chairs. Soon, standing and floor exercises are added. Emphasis is placed on developing a walking “habit,” which participants are encouraged to continue after the six-week program has ended.
Suggested donation for participants is $5 for the six-week program. To preregister, call Androscoggin Home Care an Hospice at 1-800-482-7412, ext. 1404.
