AUBURN – Mary “Mama” McDonald, 84, died Sunday, Oct. 10, at Clover Manor with her daughter by her side.

She was born Oct. 13, 1919, in Dover-Foxcroft, the daughter of George and Marion Fairbrother. The family moved to Augusta when she was 6 years old.

She was a Girl Scout leader of Troop 33 for several years, and was appointed by the Kennebec Valley Council as office secretary and council assistant. She was also a member of RB Capen Rebekah Lodge No. 52 in Augusta as past Noble Grand, serving in several other posts as well.

Mama loved dancing, music, gardening, and anything pertaining to nature. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with family and friends at her camp in Seboomoook on Moosehead Lake.

She is survived by two sons, John F. McDonald of Brewer, Charles E. McDonald of Augusta; one daughter, Mary M. Heaphy and her companion, Nancy M. Allen, of Lewiston; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; many friends; and her special family of caregivers at Clover Manor.

She was predeceased by her husband, John F. McDonald, in 1985; one brother, Charles Fairbrother in 1968; and two sisters, Genie Hill in 1995, and Milliaent Fales in 1997.
