RUMFORD – The Rumford Area Rotary Club is adding a pie-baking contest to this year’s Octoberfest being held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, at Oxford County ARC.

People can submit a pumpkin and/or apple pie to be judged by a group of Rotarians. Ribbons will be awarded for first, second and third places.

There will be two categories of contestants for each type of pie. One category will be for food services, including restaurants and caterers. The second category will include individuals and families.

Contestants can submit two pies of each type for the contest. One piece of the pie will be used for judging and the balance will be sold by the slice. If a second pie is submitted, it will be auctioned in the early afternoon during the Octoberfest.

Pies must be submitted between 7 and 11 a.m. on the day of Octoberfest at the Oxford County ARC. Judging will be completed by noon. Pies will be on display until 1 p.m. and sold or auctioned off after 1.

Proceeds from the pie sale and auction will be shared by Oxford County ARC and the Rumford Area Rotary Club.

People who want additional information can call Joe Sirois at 369-0141 or Paul Jones at 545-2671 or 562-7172.
