LEWISTON – Is your family prepared for an emergency? If there were an ice storm, wildfire, flood or hurricane in the area, would you be prepared and know what to do? You will after attending a Preparedness Day Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at the American Red Cross United Valley Chapter, 137 East Ave.

Those attending will see how ham radio operators transmit emergency messages during a disaster, learn what information and supplies to have on hand in case they are asked to evacuate their home, how to provide care for someone who is injured and other preparedness activities.

There will be displays, brochures and presentations from United Valley Chapter Emergency Services Director Amy Guimond and Health and Safety Services Director Judy Emch. Information will be appropriate for school-age children through senior citizens.
