AUBURN – The Small Business Institute at Central Maine Community College will offer “Finding Answers to Your Income Tax Questions (SBI 010-21),” a workshop for small business owners, from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18. The workshop is free; however preregistration is required.

It will introduce participants to the Taxpayer Education and Communication organization, provide information regarding how to navigate the IRS Web site and introduce products, services and assistance that can help meet taxpayer obligations. Shawn Savage from IRS will present the workshop.

The college will offer “How to Ask for Money Effectively,” a workshop on fund-raising, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19. The cost of $55 includes materials.

Participants will learn the most common mistakes people make when fund-raising from the fund-raising coach, Marc Pitman. The workshop is good for nonprofits and volunteers and will give proven techniques to improve fund-raising skills.

Participants will learn the seven most common mistakes people make when asking for money, a simple three-step tool to help articulate the message and a four-part system to structure a solicitation.

The Corporate and Community Services Department will offer workshops on Microsoft PowerPoint on Wednesdays in November from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost of each five-hour workshop is $95.

Introduction to PowerPoint (CPT 017-01) will be held on Nov. 3. It covers creating and editing presentations, formatting text, using proofing tools, working with objects and using WordArt and ClipArt.

Advanced PowerPoint (CPT 024-01) will meet on Nov. 10. It covers working with outlines, creating charts and tables, working with data from other sources, adding multimedia elements, working with templates, adding customization and linking slides.
