LEWISTON – New Beginnings, a nonprofit agency serving runaway and homeless youth, is sponsoring a 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, Oct. 17.

The race will start at Veteran’s Park, continue through the downtown area and finish back at Veteran’s Park.

T-shirts will be given to the first 100 registrants and prizes will be awarded to the top runners in all age categories.

“We are planning to make this a runner/walker friendly event with good food and music. A special bonus will be complimentary massages at race end,” said race organizer and New Beginnings’ board member Dawne Havener.

The proceeds will be used to support New Beginnings’ Emergency Shelter, Transitional Living Program and Outreach Programs in Lewiston and Farmington.

“While this is a new fund-raising event for us, another important objective of the race is to raise community awareness of the programs we offer,” said Tina Laplante, board president.

For more information or to register, call 795-4077 or show up on Sunday between 7 and 8 a.m. at Veteran’s Park to register.
