LEWISTON – October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. According to statistics, one in 100 to 115 babies are stillborn and 15 to 25 percent of pregnancies end in miscarriages, according to organizers of an upcoming walk.

On Sunday, Oct. 17, there will be a “Walk to Remember” to raise awareness and acknowledge all those babies who left too soon. The walk will raise money to go toward the Colby Fund, which has been established to assist parents and families during their loss in any way they can. The walk will begin in the Women’s Pavilion at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. Registration will start at 9 a.m. and the two-mile walk will begin at 10. Donations are welcome. Balloons will be released at the end, remembering babies.

A Wave of Light will be held in the home at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, lighting candles in memory of babies with many other parents and families who have experienced similar losses across the world.
