WINTHROP – The Winthrop Area YMCA announces the start of the Kids Club program, an after-school program for grades three, four and five.

The program is housed at the Winthrop Grade School and its staff is led by retired Winthrop teacher Janet Cowperthwaite, with Cheryl Ashe assisting. They direct the program that focuses on being a safe and fun place for children to go after school.

The program includes a daily snack, study time for homework and reading, group activities, including organized games and crafts, as well as time for children to play.

The program runs Monday through Friday from the end of school until 5:30 p.m. The grade school gym stage is the main location. The club is open on school workshop and early release days, but not on school vacations.

With the help of money from the Kennebec Valley United Way the program is able to offer scholarships and financial assistance. For more information about the program or to get a child enrolled as a member, call Lonney Stevens at 377-9686.
