UNITY – Unity College student John Dumais of Sabattus was honored on Aug. 18 for outstanding service characterized as “above and beyond” at the department headquarters in Augusta.
A junior majoring in environmental sciences with an emphasis on fisheries, Dumais served over the summer as a volunteer at the Gov. Hill Hatchery in Augusta. Dumais was presented with a commissioner print by Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Commissioner Roland D. Martin.
The inaugural was created to recognize exemplary donations of time, energy or funds to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. The print is meant to honor the generosity of individuals, organizations or companies. The Commissioner’s Print is awarded at the sole discretion of the commissioner and deputy commissioner for special thanks and recognition for service deemed “above and beyond” what most do.
In a statement issued by the department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, Dumais was praised for his unpaid volunteer work, estimated at approximately 320 hours. He resumed his studies at Unity College on Sept. 6.
