FARMINGTON – The Franklin County Animal Shelter is inviting the public to an anniversary party from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30. The staff is celebrating three one-year anniversaries.

Starsky and Hutch came to the shelter last year on Oct. 25 and are the two longest residents at the shelter. They were just kittens when they first arrived but now they are young adults, according to the staff. They are a little bit timid but once with friends they love to snuggle. They are often running about the lobby playing with anything they can get their paws on.

Nina, Pinta and St. Maria came to the shelter within 48 hours of Starsky and Hutch. They also came as kittens and have grown up at the shelter. They often gallop through the second cat room and pounce on any unsuspecting toy ball or dryer sheet.

The Rolling Stones, a mother with four kittens, arrived at the shelter in mid-November. They are often playmates with Nina, Pinta and St. Maria in the second cat room. They are a little less active than the other two litters but are the most loving cats.

They often help the staff clean in the morning by brushing up against them or climbing into their laps. In the afternoon they like to climb into the clean laundry cupboards and take a nap.

As these three litters have grown up at the shelter, they have never felt carpet between their paws, they have never had a bed to lie on or claim as their own and they have never experienced the thrill of running up and down stairs.

Refreshments will be served Saturday and there will be plenty of chances to play with the cats.

Since Halloween is right around the corner, if any children would like to dress up in their costumes, they are invited to do so as the staff will be handing out candy as well.

The shelter would appreciate donations of bleach, paper towels, cat food and dog food.
