RUMFORD – Seventy-three walkers in the annual Alzheimer’s Memory Walk to benefit the Maine Alzheimer’s Association strode off from Rumford Community Home on Oct. 2. This year’s walk raised $6,784. Top individual fund-raiser again this year was Margaret Howes, with $900. She outdistanced many of the teams who walked.

Also earning donated prizes for sponsorship money raised were Cindy Toher of the Rumford Hospital Team, Frances DeFilipp, Barbara Belanger of the Rumford Community Home Team and Jackie Cote, who walked for the Oxford County ARC Team.

Rumford Community Home’s team won top honors for teams with $1,924. The Oxford County ARC team had the most walkers, 23. A group of students from the Rumford Mexico University College took the Memory Walk on as a community project. The only business team this year was from Carey and Associates.

The walk was coordinated by Colleen Gurney, a Rumford Community Home activities director.
