WEST PARIS – Alzena L. Sargent, 80, died after a long illness on Saturday, Oct. 30, at Ledgeview Living Center.

She was born Dec. 8, 1923, in Rumford, the only child of Viola E. (Searle) and Henry Steven Lord. She grew up in Bethel and graduated from Gould Academy in 1942. She attended business college in Portland and worked in Portland for an insurance company.

She returned to Bethel and married Lewis M. Sargent of Mexico on Feb. 21, 1949. She worked as a bookkeeper for her self-employed husband as well as for Hanover Dowel Mill and L.E. Davis Lumber Co. She was employed part-time by M.S.A.D. 44 as a secretary in Adult Education until her retirement.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and attended the West Parish Congregational Church. She especially loved music, playing piano, sewing, reading and her flower garden.

She is survived by her husband, Lewis M. Sargent, of Albany Township; her daughter, Elizabeth S. LaVallee, of Gilead; two granddaughters, Marcy E. LaVallee and her husband, Phillip D. Arnold, of Rockport, Mass., and Becky L. LaVallee, of Bangor; and her aunts, Doris Brown, of Bethel and Helen Morton, of Newry.
