OXFORD – Alice Mae McAllister, 79, passed away quietly with her family by her side on Nov. 3, after a valiant eight-year battle with cancer.

Born on May 27, 1925, in Norway, daughter of Arthur Hill and Berenice Nash Hill Leavitt, she graduated from Norway High School in 1943. She attended Becker Jr. College in Worcester, Mass., in 1945.

After college, she was employed as town clerk in Norway.

In 1953, she married Urban McAllister of Casco where she has resided for 51 years as a homemaker.

Mrs. McAllister was a member and secretary of the University of Maine/Cumberland County Women’s Extension; a member and president of the Casco/Naples Senior Citizens; and belonged to the Casco Village Church Women’s Guild for which she has been treasurer for over 20 years. She also served as a voting clerk for the Town of Casco for several years.

In her earlier years, she was a member of the local PTA – serving as both president and secretary; a Girl Scout/Brownie leader; and for many years enjoyed her bowling leagues and ceramic classes.

She loved to bake and was well-known locally for her custard pies which were coveted by many at church suppers and bake sales.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Leslie McAllister, of Oxford; her daughter and son-in-law, Lillian and Leo Lagasse, of Wells; she was also dearly loved by her four grandchildren, Megan, Joshua, Ryan and Allyson.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1983.
