Incumbent Richard Sykes came in 764 votes ahead of challenger Margaret Reimer in the race for House District 98.

Sykes, a retired high school principal from Harrison, ran as a Republican and garnered 3,031 votes. Reimer, an English professor from Bridgton, ran on the Democratic ticket and attracted 2,267 votes.

Sykes has described himself as “fiscally conservative,” and during his campaign expressed disappointment that the Legislature did not enact tax reform in its last session.

He has suggested giving the Legislature the ability to oversee more departments within state government in order to control spending.
