LOCKE MILLS – The Jackson-Silver Post, American Legion, Auxiliary has been meeting every two weeks with a number of activities and plans for more. The last supper/dance of the season was held in October with a good attendance. They will continue in the spring.

An initiation ceremony is planned in the near future. Besides the newest members, there are others who have not been initiated. They are asked to contact Secretary Olive Risko.

Post members are planning a Veterans Day observance on Thursday, Nov. 11, at the hall. The Auxiliary will provide doughnuts and coffee. The public is invited.

As in the past several years the Auxiliary is taking orders for Christmas light bulbs for the three trees on the Legion grounds. Money realized will be used for benefits to veterans. For $2, anyone may purchase bulbs in memory of or in honor a veteran or family member. Contact active members to contribute.

Two Legion members who died had wives in the Auxiliary. A contribution was made to Bethel Rescue in memory of Murray Cummings and another to the Telstar scholarship fund in memory of Harry Swan.

One of the newer members, Kelly Bickford, is on duty in Iraq. She had been collecting comfort items to send to Iraq before she was called to active duty. They are still being collected at the Legion Hall where a list of appropriate items is available and they will continue to be sent. Anyone who would like to contribute is invited to do so.

At the latest meeting students who attended Boys and Girls State in June were invited to a dinner along with their parents to report on their experiences at Maine Maritime Academy and Husson College. Ashley DeFlumiere and Meagan Bailey gave reports on their activities as did August Reiss and Alex Helms.

A meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 18. Those who are eligible for membership are welcome.
