LEWISTON – The Jesus Party urban ministry will recognize the importance of observing Veterans Day at 6 p.m. Friday Nov. 12, at headquarters, 291 Bates St.
The ministry will honor its patriotic mentor, Jerry DerBoghosian, adjutant, Post 22, American Legion, for his ongoing commitment to promoting God and country to area youth.
Ministry Director Douglas Taylor will use the patriotic holiday as a window of opportunity to teach about democracy. Children will view a 23-minute, age-appropriate video, “Election Day.” Those attending will explore the history of voting and examine different levels of public office and constitutional amendments that give voting rights to American citizens.
The free event is open to all area children. Everyone will receive American flags and red, white and blue rocket ice pops. For more information or a ride to the event, call 786-5568.
