LEWISTON – The St. Mary’s Food Pantry will host a “Pack the Bus” fund-raiser on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 12 and 13, at Shaw’s, 600 Center St., Auburn.

Donations may be dropped off at the Good Shepherd Food Pantry at 430 Lisbon St. from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday, or people may donate by participating in “Pack the Bus.”

There are hundreds of needy families in the Lewiston/Auburn area who turn to the Good Shepherd Food Pantry each month seeking emergency food services to help feed their families.

During the winter season, demand for food will be at its highest level of the year. Through gifts of nonperishable food items, the food pantry will be able to feed the 2,500 people (70 percent of whom are children under 12), who turn to it each month for assistance.

In particular, the pantry needs peanut butter, tuna fish, canned pasta, macaroni and cheese, soup, noodles, baby food and juice.

The sum of $15 can feed a family of five for a month. Cash donations may be directed to the Good Shepherd Food Pantry, PO Box 7291, Lewiston, ME 04243-7291. The pantry will secure food from the Good Shepherd Food-Bank for as little as 16 cents a pound shared maintenance fee.
