AUBURN – George M. Harris, 89, of Auburn, passed away Sunday, Nov. 14, following a long illness. Mr. Harris was most recently a resident of the Clover Health Care, after having lived in East Hartford, Conn. for 51 years.

He was born in Lewiston, Aug. 22, 1915, the son of George M. Harris Sr. and Laura I. Brown of Auburn. He was a graduate of Edward Little High School in 1932.

In 1938, he married Margaret L. Crane of Mechanic Falls. They had one daughter, Elaine H. Stover of West Bath.

In 1951, he moved to East Hartford Conn., where he was employed by Pratt and Whitney Aircraft (P&WA) for 32 years. He retired as supervisor of engine test. Prior to 1951, he was employed at various automobile agencies and shoe manufacturers in Lewiston and South Portland Shipyard from 1941-1945.

He was a member of the Tranquil Masonic Lodge in Auburn since 1950, and Order of Eastern Star (served three terms as worthy patron in Glastonbury, Conn., since 1958. He was a member of the P&WA 25-Year Club and P&WA Retirees Association, where he served as president for two years. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and a volunteer for the American Red Cross.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Auburn; his daughter, Elaine and her husband, Jerrold, of West Bath; a grandson, Jason C. Stover, of Topsham, Mass.; a granddaughter, Susanne M. Stover, of Hollywood Hills, Calif.; and a great-granddaughter, Sean C. Stover, of Topsfield, Mass.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Blaine Harris, of Auburn and Harlan Harris, of Lewiston.
