RUMFORD – Raymond Theodore Spydell, 87, died Sunday, Nov. 14, at his residence on Front Street, Rumford.

He was born in Rumford, Oct. 13, 1917, the son of Theo and Mary (Wing) Spydell. He graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1936.

During World War II he served as a S/Sgt U.S. Army, Headquarters Battery 33rd Field Artillery Brigade from 1941 to 1945, including northern France, Rhineland and central Europe.

“Ray” worked at Oxford Paper Co. in Rumford for over 42 years, until retirement in 1979 from the Color Plant.

He was a member Oxford Paper Co. 25 and 40-Year Club, Robert Shand Post 1641, VFW, Napoleon Ouellette Post 24, American Legion and a former member of Rumford Falls Aerie 1248, FOE.

He was married in Livermore Falls, on Jan. 28, 1944, to Glenis W. Dalessandro, who died in Lewiston on Feb. 27, 2002.

Survivors include two daughters, Terry White and husband, Delance, of Jay and Becky Spydell, of Vienna; son, Ted Spydell and wife, Vicki, of Jay; six grandchildren, Tanya DeMillo and husband, Mario, of Jay, Tracy Therrien, of Dover, N.H., Tricia Roy and husband, Brian, of Fayette, Brandi Boucher, of New Sharon, LeeAnn Crockett and husband, Artie, of Wilton and Lynnette Stebbins, of Jay; and seven great-grandchildren, Brandon, Kaylie and Jordan DeMillo, of Jay, Brady and Nicole Therrien, of Dover, N.H., and Dakota and Denver Crockett, of Wilton.
