BRIDGTON – A group of local people, led by Joan Korb of Bridgton, is committed to making grief and bereavement support services available in the Lakes Region during the holidays. To that end, they contacted Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, asking for training and professional guidance.

In response, the bereavement coordinator taught an intensive 24-hour course over a seven-week period. The course prepared 12 interested community members to function as trained bereavement support volunteers. Some will offer individual support while others will facilitate peer support/discussion groups.

The training provided participants with information and training on the nature of grief and the process of healing and recovery, as well as concrete skills to successfully facilitate groups and support bereaved individuals.

One result is that special workshops will be held at the Bridgton Community Center from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, “Grief During the Holidays,” and from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, “General Support for Grief During the Holidays.”

The workshops are free and open to all who have suffered a loss and wish to find support in managing their frequently painful memories, often expanded during holiday seasons. It is not necessary to attend both meetings. For additional information, contact BJ Cavicchi at 647-2752 or Terry Cronin at AHCH, 77-7740.
